Dubby
v0.1 (beta) – Standalone software Dub Siren for Mac / PC
& TouchOSC on iPad / iPhone
02nd February 2012
Dubby is a free software virtual
instrument for Mac and PC. It’s an emulation of a ‘Dub
Siren’, an instrument used commonly in dub reggae. If
you’ve never heard of a Dub Siren before, check out this
video which demonstrates its sound and typical use.
It’s made for Dub / Reggae DJs who
want to include their own vintage sounds into their
sets. However, the sounds you can make with Dubby
are quite diverse, so it can sit quite comfortably
with other musical genres too.
It can be controlled by keyboard /
mouse but it’s recommended that you control it using
an iPad or iPhone (running the TouchOSC app and the
accompanying layout provided in the download).
Tempo (BPM) for the built-in delay effect can be
entered manually or tapped in. It can also be
synced to Traktor’s BPM, meaning that any echoes
will automatically be kept in time with what you’re
playing in Traktor.
