rs-met updates EngineersFilter and EasyQ                       13th April 2011

rs-met has updated the free EasyQ and  EngineersFilter plug-ins.

EasyQ is a maintenance update with a little bug fix related to color scheme handling.

EasyQ is an easy-to-use equalizer with an arbitrary number of filter stages in series connection. Each of the filter stages can operate in one of the following modes: peak/cut (aka bell or parametric EQ), high- or low-shelving, notch and low- or high-pass (both with either 6 or 12 dB/oct slope). EngineersFilter is a filter plug-in that allows for extremely steep filtering. It achieves this by implementing high order IIR filter design methods that are commonly used in science and engineering, namely Butterworth, Chebychev, inverse Chebychev and elliptic (aka Cauer) filters. Each of these filter design methods can be applied to create low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, band-reject, high-/low-shelving and peak/dip filters of orders up to 20.

EngineersFilter now includes two new approximation methods: Bessel and Papoulis. The Bessel design approximates a linear phase response in its pass-band and the Papoulis design achieves the maximum negative slope at the cutoff frequency when a monotonically decreasing magnitude response is assumed.
